Amazon - A Developer's Dream

Amazon.com have been working at making the cloud ‘easy.’ The online retailer has a new set of developer tools that simplifies the everyday tasks when deploying cloud applications.

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elastic Beanstalk is what developers have dreamed of. "Developers don't need to worry about the configuration required to set up their infrastructure on AWS," said Adam Selipsky, vice president of AWS. “Customers can now choose to have as much automation or as much control as they wish.”

The Beanstalk automatically takes care of capacity provisioning, load balancing and application health monitoring – though solving this management burden does not solve the problem of IT heads being wary of cloud deployment as James Governor, a RedMonk analyst, believes. Developers though – they ‘love it.’

‘Amazon is great at automating things that are a pain,’ Governor said. Google and Microsoft may be wishing they had a simply remedy as AWS’s platform-as-a-service approach seriously rivals the App Engine for Business and the Azure Platform respectively.
