'Hung Parliament' causing greater need for IT offshoring

As UK IT services companies have suffered in the recession, with a market decline of 4% in 2009, Indian companies have stormed the UK market.

Seven Indian IT service providers, including TCS, Inforsys, Cognizant, Wipro, HCL and Mahindra Satyam, saw a combined growth in the UK market of 5%, and, according to Techmarketview’s Anthony Miller, that figure is set to rise.

Miller argued during a webinar on Techmarketview that cuts in the public sector combined with a growing enthusiasm for outsourcing IT service provision will put Indian companies at the forefront in the next year.

The General Election will be a determining factor in IT service provision. Miller said that the election has stalled decision-making on IT spending, pointing out that only a quarter of the money spent on IT deals in 2009 was spent in 2010. The election will have more of an effect too; a hung Parliament will mean further delays in any decisions; and depending on which leader arrives in No.10, more cuts in the public sector will mean a greater need for IT offshoring.
