Oracle to acquires Convergin and announces cloud computing tour

In another busy week for the software giant, Oracle corporation announced that it will buy Convergin, the Israeli telecoms startup, as well as embark on a cloud computing roadshow.

Convergin makes software that allows telcos deliver services across multiple networks and platforms. Its customers include T-Mobile and SaskTel.

On Enterprise Networking Planet, Larry Barret points out that this is Oracle’s 54th purchase since 2005. On Monday, Oracle said that it planned to buy SOA management vendor AmberPoint as well. The deal is expected to close before July 2010, and terms have not yet been disclosed.

Oracle spokespeople said in a statement that Convergin’s industry-leading J2EE-based Service Broker platform enables communications service providers (CSPs) to manage services for a wide range of networks and application platforms, including pre-paid charging.

This allows CSPs to focus on launching innovative services while modernizing to next-generation networks. Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice presidenta and general manager at Oracle Communications, said: “As communications service providers transition from legacy telephony networks to next-generation networks, the combination of Oracle and Convergin will accelerate new service innovation while reducing network complexity and cost.”

Also this week, Oracle announced that it will take cloud computing by the horns with a fifty-date road show exploring the new technology. Some commentators have claimed that this represents something of a U-turn from Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, given his reluctance to fully accept cloud computing technology in the past.

Nevertheless, the road show promises to help developers and system administrators “break through the haze of cloud computing”, “take advantage of enterprise cloud computing”, and develop private clouds for their own organisations.

Inatech will be providing support and consultation for companies seeking more insight to the benefits of Oracle platforms for cloud computing.

Great informative article. Good post about the Computing Environment. Thanks for the info shared here. I am new to Cloud Computing Industry. I knew nothing about the Cloud Computing until I have attended the Cloudslam 2009 conference.
