Microsoft’s bad luck continues into 2009

Following complaints upon complaints for Windows Vista in 2008, Microsoft has received and provded further bad news just one week into the new year.

Firstly, as expectations go – Job cuts. Rumours are spreading like wild fire that up to 3,000 Microsoft UK jobs will go during the next 12 months and up to 30,000 worldwide.

A Silicon Valley blogger has laid claim to this very disappointing news. He claims 17% of Microsoft’s workforce will be slashed worldwide. The blogger gives further details in his articles, while analysts believe it could be due to half of businesses freezing their IT budgets.

If this wasn’t bad enough for the company, it’s leading web software is slowly losing popularity as new browsers enter the market with more intelligent functions. Internet Explorer is down over 3% in market share compared to October 2008 according to Net Applications.

Then there’s the worry that leaked versions of Microsoft’s Window’s 7 operating system could lead to PCs generating malware, denial of service attacks and spam.

It’s not such a good start to the year for Microsoft.
