Next step with the Cloud - Secure it

At the Gartner Identity and Access Management (IAM) summit earlier this month attendees discussed the next big challenge for the security industry – namely, securing cloud-based data.

Kurt Johnson, vice-president strategy and corporate development for IAM solutions provider Courion explained.

"You can't just shut off network access once someone steps away from the company. Now they could go into the nearest coffee shop and be right back on.”

CIOs will have to make significant changes resulting in formal identity and access management strategies that run across their organisations. The fears surrounding data stored in the cloud make it all the more important to have a security system in place that controls access rights to both upload and download information.

A hybrid strategy, which takes cloud and on-premise into account, is apparently the best one, Johnson said. Gartner confirmed this as a popular choice. "Through 2015, over 50 per cent of cloud-based IAM solutions will be hybrid, with software and scalable service-based solutions integrated for cloud computing.”

This is one big challenge that the security industry has no choice but to succeed in.
