Oracle set to expand in Cambodia

Diep Seng Ho is the CEO of Cambodian business Interflex. After a presentation from Oracle at Phnom Penh’s NagaWorld Hotel last week, he said:

“We definitely hope to expand here, as Cambodia has developed a lot in the last five to 10 years.”

He went on to explain that Interflex and Sun-Oracle are in the process of bidding for a US $10 million government IT implementation, which has been launched by the World Bank.

The project is to reform the information systems that control public funds at the Cambodian Ministry of Finance. He said “The ministry suggested that they want the pilot [phase] to start from January 1, 2011.”

The two companies will also launch technology for the country’s new stock exchange later this year.

Complementing the Cambodian expansion is Oracle’s training programme in the country. Oracle plans to launch an IT training academy in Cambodia. According to Oracle spokespeople, the academy will provide a young generation of Cambodians with “a world-class ICT knowledge and skill to maximise their potential.”
