India Independence Day

15 August Independence Day commemorates its independence from British rule and birth as a sovereign nation in 1947. Across the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies are conducted with the main event taking place in New Delhi. The Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a televised speech.
