The Oracle Fusion Middleware Forum was well attended with 100-150 executives participating in the show. Oracle has obviously been doing a lot of promotional work since there were two other Oracle events taking place in London at the same time.
The day kicked off with a keynote speech from Andrew Sutherland (SVP, EMEA Fusion Middleware – Oracle). The key theme of the speech, and indeed the day was ‘Driving Business Efficiency and Expansion’ using Fusion Middleware and related technologies. The theme continued with a Customer Keynote session from Clifton Cunningham, Enterprise Architect at ITV plc. He explored how SOA can be used in an enterprise to make the most of existing IT investment, and also discussed how SOA architecture provides the flexibility for IT organisations to be more agile and adaptable to market and industry conditions.
This led up to the lunch break and exhibition / networking part of the event. Sean Snow and I manned the Inatech stand. As businesses cut budgets and reduce development our focus for discussion was bringing out capabilities both specifically in SOA and related technologies but also giving an understanding of overall delivery capabilities.
Attendees were from various industries including Public Sector, Engineering and Financial Services. There is a lot of interest from the Financial Services industries on technologies to support them during the current economic conditions, we had some interesting discussions around the credit crunch! We also touched base with representatives from a number of other Oracle Partners, including Griffith Waite, Atos Origin, Edenbrook and Glue.
The afternoon sessions were split into two parallel tracks, covering Application Integration topics and Process / Governance. Again, the overall focus and key theme for all of the sessions was around how to get the most out of existing IT investment, with SOA technologies as the enabling vehicle for change.
